EDGEWATER IN CHICAGO TO GAIN A METRA RAIL STOP

Metra announced its plans to add a train stop and station for the Union Pacific line, to be located at Peterson Aveneu (6000 north) and Ravenswood Avenue(1800 west) in Edgewater in Chicago. The move is expected to increase the economic value of the area, and in turn increase the value of local real estate, as access to rail transportation is a key factor in buyers determining value of a neighborhood. The station will include parking for cars and bikes.

This is a big step forward for the area, which is not well served currently by rail service. Currently, the closest stops currently on Ravenswood are at Lunt Avenue (7000 North) and the Lawrence Avenue (4800 North).

Metra is very popular with riders as an alternative to the elevated trains (the “L”), as it makes only a few stops and arrives downtown within approximately 20 minutes.   Funding for the $136 million project is already approved and may include improvements and possibly building a station at the current Lawrence and Ravenswood stop.
