Location
Edgewater is number 77 of Chicago´s 77 official community areas. In Edgewater residents can enjoy several area beaches during warmer weather. Neighboring communities include Roger Park to the north, Uptown to the south, Lincoln Square to the south west and West Ridge to the northwest. Edgewater is bounded by Lake Michigan to the east, Ravenswood on the west, Devon to the north, and to the south Foster. It encompasses several smaller communities including Andersonville, Edgewater Glen and Magnolia Glen.

Transportation
The Red Line elevate train runs through the middle of the area with stops at Loyola, Granville, Thorndale, Bryn Mawr, and Berwyn. The Metra Commuter Train stops at Lawrence Ave. and Ravenswood. Lake Shore Drive also
provides great accessibility to Edgewater. Express CTA buses serve the area.
Schools
The Edgewater area is serviced by over 12 different private and public schools. These schools are as diverse as the residents, with programs varying from state of the art computer labs to community service programs. Renowned Loyola University straddles the Rogers Park and Edgewater areas.

There is a Swedish American Museum at Clark and a Farmers Market at Broadway and Thorndale. For antique connoisseurs there are antique shops at Broadway and Clark. There are also many local restaurants along Clark where ethnic fare includes French, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Swedish and traditional American.
Festivals/ Parks/ Recreation
Edgewater is home to 3 Lake Michigan Beaches: Osterman, Foster Ave. and Lane. The is also the Broadway Armor Park where Circus performers teach residence about the art of trapeze. Also the Midsommarfest , in June, is 2 days packed with fun, ethic foods, and live music. This festival is attended annually by over 40,000 people.
History
Edgewater has the highest population density of any of the neighborhoods in Chicago. It also has the highest concentration of gay and lesbian in Chicago. Historically, Edgewater was developed in the 1890´s as a Summer home for Chicago´s elite. It was celebrated as the only electric lighted suburb adjacent to Chicago.
